Instructions for setting up vCal 1.00 ===================================== What is vCal? ------------- vCal is a small program which creates a vCalendar file from an Epoc Agenda or an Epoc Agenda from a vCalendar file. What is vCalendar? ------------------ vCalendar is an industry standard for the exchange of calendar information. Many PC & PDA calendar programs support this standard. Objective of the program ------------------------ The program enables calendar data to be transferred between your Epoc Agenda and any other calendar system which supports the vCalendar standard. The program does *not* synchronise data. Setting up vCal ---------------- To install, double-click on vCal.sis in Windows Explorer or transfer the file to your Epoc computer and install it from there. If you have installed the files successfully, then you should see the vCal program appearing in your Extras bar. Creating a vCalendar file ------------------------- Let's assume that you want to create an Epoc Agenda from a vCalendar file. First you must export your vCalendar file from your other calendar program. This option might be shown as File>Export or File>Save As. There may be some optional parameters eg. to control the number of days to be exported. Transferring the vCalendar file to the Epoc computer ---------------------------------------------------- When you transfer the vCalendar file, be sure that you don't automatically convert your file to Epoc Word. You want to do a straight copy from your PC with no conversion. Running vCal ------------ Select vCal from your Extras bar. Alternatively, highlight the vCalendar file (which should end in the extension .vcs) and press Enter (this doesn't work for ER3 machines). You will be presented with a series of program options, which are explained in the Help file. You might want to experiment with various options to find the ones which suit you best. Summary ------- The above steps may sound complicated, but in fact are quite straightforward with practice - particularly vCal remembers your settings each time. I hope you find the program useful.
