Sweet Dreams v1.3 for the Psion Series 5 ========================================= (C) UK 1998 Steve Litchfield http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/ Released as freeware. What is it? ----------- Picture the scene: it's the middle of the night and you wake up. It's pitch black and your partner's sleeping happily beside you. You want to know roughly what time it is (I get very disconcerted not knowing how long I've been asleep). If like me you keep your trusty Series 5 beside the bed, you now have two choices. First, you can fumble around trying to open the Series 5 in the dark without breaking it, feel for the various keys which will bring up a backlit clock and then close the machine up so that you don't stumble over the opened up computer in the morning.... Not very practical, is it? Hence Sweet Dreams. Start it and "Activate" it. With one press of the "Play" button on the outside of the closed-up Series 5, it turns on, flashes the hour and sixths of an hour at you using the built-in red LED, and turns off again immediately. For example, if you press the "Play" button at 3.42am, the LED would blink with 3 slow flashes followed by 4 quick ones. And so on. What about the other buttons? ----------------------------- Good question. The "Record" one still works as usual, though its characteristic 'beep' rather shatters the silence of the bedroom, so you might want to avoid midnight brainwaves(!). Using the record feature also (obviously) stops Sweet Dreams from being the 'foreground' application on your Series 5, meaning that it can't respond to further taps on the "Play" button. To summarise, this shouldn't be a problem for most people. Just remember that although the Record application coexists with Sweet Dreams, you can't keep swapping between them without manual intervention. Passwords etc? -------------- No problem, Sweet Dreams has been programmed to work *underneath* the password and owner screens 8-) Installation. ------------ If you unzipped Sweet Dreams OK, you should have ended up with 2 separate files. One will be this text file 8-) The other one is an SIS file. (Experts) If you know what a .SIS file is, just double-click on it in Win95 Explorer or tap on it on the Series 5 and you'll be installed in no time. (Beginners) If you *don't* know what a .SIS file is, this must be one of the very first third party applications you've ever installed. Don't worry, it's all quite painless: IF you have the 'older' PsiWin 2.01 or if you've downloaded Sweet Dreams directly onto the Psion 5, the best way to proceed is to copy the "sweet.sis" file into a suitable place on your Psion. If the file appears on the system screen with a question mark beside it, this just means you haven't yet upgraded your Series 5 to accept EPOC install files. Grab a copy of the special INSTEXE.EXE program from the same place as you obtained Sweet Dreams and tap on it on your Psion. You should now see a nice little icon beside the "sweet.sis" file and can tap on it to complete your installation. IF you have PsiWin 2.1, just double-click on the "sweet.sis" file to launch EPOC Install on the PC itself and to complete the installation. If all went well, you should now have a new "SweetDream" icon on your Extras bar.
