README
******* GeoGrid ******* by Röbbe Wünschiers *version 2.0* *** Description *** GeoGrid calculates the grid reference from a geographical position you enter as Deg°Min'Sec'' latitude and longitude, respectively. Furthermore, it shows the position on a earth map. GeoGrid also contains a editable database with presently over 800 cities. You can search the database for a city, which will then be shown on the earth map with its corresponding coordinates. The data- base can be edited and supplemented from within the application. Alternatively, you can pick a location on the screen using the pointer pen. Version 2.0 incudes the following grid references: * British Isles (Airy Ellipsoid) * Finnish KKJ International Ellipsoid (Zone 1-4) * Ireland (modified Airy Ellipsoid) * Sweden (Bessel Ellipsoid) * UTM International Ellipsoid * UTM WGS84 Ellipsoid For UTM conversions, the option exists for automatic calculation of the Central Meridian or manual entry of the Central Meridian. The calculation assumes that the standard UTM longitude zones are 6 degrees wide, except for the special zones around Svalbard and south-west Norway. For projections outside of the standard UTM zones you should manually enter the Central Meridian for the projection required. *** MENU *** GeoGrid is menu driven. The menu is divided as follows: *Cities -Search Search the city database -Edit Edit the current entry -Add Add a new entry to the database [Decimal] -Show Show the current entry on the map and calculate grid data *Location -Enter Enter a position as Lat./Long. [Deg°Min'Sec''] -Grid Choose a grid reference for calculation -Show Show the current position on the map and calculate grid data *Extras -About Show version and contact information -Quit Quits the program NOTE: After you changed either city, position or grid you need to choose the menu entry Show for recalculation! *** OUTPUT *** The output window gives you a map of the earth with the city or location choosen marked as a black circle. In the right panel the city (if choosen), latitude and longitude of the city or position, the choosen grid datum, the current grid meridian and the grid reference is shown. You can now use the pointer pen an dipp on a position on the earth map. The black circle will move to your position and the corresponding data are shown in the right panel. Alternatively, you might use the menu for entering new data. Although care was taken to compute the most accurate output I do not take any responsibility. If you find errors in the city database or the calculated output, please inform me. *** INSTALLATION *** The program comes zipped with two files. The file you just read (readme.txt) needs not to be on the Psion. The file GeoGrid.sis can be executed from the PC (if you have PsiWin) or from the Psion Series 5. It will create the folder GeoGrid in the ...\apps\ folder. A program icon named GeoGrid will then appear in the extras menu. The program is not suited to be installed on drive D. *** TERMS OF USAGE *** The program is freeware. Feel free to use and distribute the program when you agree to: *************************************************************************** ** not to sell it ** keep the package together ** ** tell me were you place it for download ** *************************************************************************** Any comments are welcome! I do not take any responsibility for the results of using the program, neither physically, nor mentally.
