README
Note Tester version 0.1 by Chris Wesley What the program does --------------------- I wrote this program to help me learn the music notes in the treble and bass clefs. It simulates "flash cards" - on which notes are written. In use, these are shown to the student in rapid succession, who must then name the notes being displayed. Through many such "flash tests", instant recognition of notes can be learned. The program simulates this process. It will time you over a trial which consists of a number of flash tests. Each incorrect guess incurs a 3 second time penalty, which should discourage successive rapid guessing. Note that as soon as you start a trial you are being timed. If you pause to change options, the time you take is added into your trial time. Set options right at the start of a trial to avoid this. At the end of the trial, the program will tell you the average length of time you took to recognise each note in the trial. This should reduce as you get better, and you'll have an objective measure of progress. The trial time is calculated to the nearest second, so trials with fewer tests will be less accurately timed. Options ------- You can instruct the program to test you on both treble and bass clefs - or on just one. You can also set the number of tests in each trial, and you can select or deselect sound effects. You can make all of these selections permanent until you change them again, by saving to file. Installation ------------ Unzipping will give you the following files: NOTETEST.OPA 4822 The application BASS.PIC 420 A picture of the bass clef TREB.PIC 440 A picture of the treble clef README.TXT 2362 This file Place the application in any \APP directory and install in the usual way. Place the .PIC files under \OPD. The program makes a small file called CLEFDEFS.ODB under the \OPD directory which is used to save your options preferences. Conditions of Use ----------------- 1. This program is a lash-up ! Use it at your own risk. 2. I retain copyright. 3. You can use freely and you may distribute further, but only in its original and complete form. 4. I welcome feedback. Email me (for the time being) at chris.wesley@tiuk.ti.com or phone in the evenings on (0234) 347836. Chris Wesley - August 1994
