README
Short: Snake 1.0a, good snake game Author: Richard Smedley <rsmedley@cix.co.uk> Type: Game (S3a, S3c) Snake 1.0a (C) Richard Smedley 1997 rsmedley@cix.co.uk INTRODUCTION ------------ An updated version of the classic snake game - eat the bugs, but avoid the deadly poisonous mushrooms! Features include three difficulty settings (each with its own high score table), numerous bonus objects, and a secret sillyness mode! Our snake finds itself living in an enclosed garden, which is inhabited by a collection of rather tasty beetles - beetles which are extremely easy for the snake to catch because they just sit in one place and never try to move around. However the garden also contains a number of mushrooms, which are deadly poisonous to the snake! Numerous bonus objects will also appear from time-to-time... Use the cursor keys (or define your own keys with Psion-K) to control the snake. Once the snake has started moving in a particular direction, it will automatically carry on moving in that direction until you either change direction or pause the game. You can pause the game at any time by pressing the RETURN key. To restart, just press one of the cursor keys to start the snake moving again. The object of the game is to eat all the beetles while avoiding the deadly mushrooms. Each time you eat a beetle the snake grows slightly longer... After a few screens it gets increasing tricky to avoid eating your own tail or the mushrooms! CONTROLS -------- Use the following keys to play the game: UP - Move up DOWN - Move down LEFT - Move left RIGHT - Move right RETURN - Pause Alternatively, you can define your own keys by pressing Psion-K. BONUS ITEMS ----------- Bonus items will appear on the screen from time-to-time, which will do various useful (or not so useful!) things when you eat them: DIET PILL - Halves the length of the snake. SKULL & CROSSBONES - Instant death, avoid. SHOVEL - Kill a number of the mushrooms. SNAIL - Slow down the snake. RUNNING MAN - Speed up the snake. SMILEY FACE - Eat it and see what happens... :-) GAME OPTIONS ------------ Pressing Psion-O will display the game options window. Here, you can select the following options: Sound -> On/Off Difficulty -> Easy/Normal/Hard If you change the difficulty in the middle of a game, then a new game will be automatically started for you. INSTALLATION ------------ The game is compatible with the Psion S3a and S3c. I'm afraid that it won't work on the Sienna, sorry. The game can be installed onto SSD, all you have to do is copy the files into the following dirs on any drive: SNAKE.OPA -> \APP\ ALIEN.WVE -> \APP\SNAKE\ PIP.WVE -> \APP\SNAKE\ SNAKE.FON -> \APP\SNAKE\ TITLE.PIC -> \APP\SNAKE\ VIPVIP.WVE -> \APP\SNAKE\ Now install it in the normal way by pressing Psion-I on the System screen. HOW TO REGISTER --------------- This game has been released as shareware. The shareware version is fully functional in every way, it simply displays a "nag" screen occasionally to encourage you to register. The registration fee is 5 UK Pounds. I'm happy to accept registrations in cash in most major currencies, including Pounds Sterling, Deutschmarks, and US Dollars. Unfortunately, I can only accept cheques if they're made out in Pounds Sterling and drawn on a UK bank - no foreign cheques please! When you register I'll give you a serial number and registration code, which you can enter into the program by pressing Psion-R. This will stop the nag screens from appearing. Your registration code is solely for your own personal use, and must not be given to anybody else.
