CredChek - Credit Card Checksum Calculator ========================================== This is the first release of CredChek for the Psion 3a. The software is the property of Clarity Systems Ltd. You are licensed to use it for evaluation purposes only. For other purposes, a license may be purchased from SP Services at the addresses below. Running a small mail order business, it's not been possible for us to afford the expensive credit card swipe machine that connects direct to the bank to post the transaction. We have always mailed in vouchers, but we are consequently at risk from fraud. To reduce the risk, we check the card numbers and make sure they pass the standard checksum tests. We've used our own Windows software to do this for many years. We recently decided that actually, the best way to work would be to check the validity while the customer was on the phone, but the PC is never in the right state to start the check program. So we ported it to the Psion. The enclosed software works well enough for us to trust our own business to it, but obviously your needs differ. If you find CredChek is useful, something you'd like to keep on your Psion, please register. The software is fully functional and all registering will do (apart from us sending a certificate with a code number to remove the "unregistered" word) is encourage us to maintain it. We're sure you won't abuse our trust. If you find something it doesn't do, or even worse something it does wrong, please tell us and we'll try to fix it. We are keen to know the checksum algorithms for the cards we don't take, such as JCB. If the program saves you from loss, please send us the anecdote (preferably clipped to a percentage of the saving!) We're sorry that we're unable to accept any liability for your use of CredChek. It is intended as a guide only; it may well prove to be riddled with bugs or errors of judgement that we haven't found, or even defeated by a fraudster. We warn you now that you really should follow your own bank guidelines concerning validation of cards. If you or your Psion suffer any loss or damage we're afraid we can't afford to compensate you in any way so we make it a license condition that you choose not to hold us responsible in any way for any such loss or damage.
